Description

Greetings!

SnapHappy is a new camera app I've written during lockdown. It uses the new camerax jetpack module. Before camerax existed, third party camera apps were notoriously unreliable, because each manufacturer implements the hardware/software interface slightly differently.

Camerax is an attempt to find a way around this knotty problem. A deeper explanation of how it achieves this can be found here:-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYkTXJ2TuiA

The camerax module is still only in beta and does not officially support video yet. Over time I will complete this app and it will include additional paid for filters. However, it is a fully working camera app with some cool features.

1. Pinch to zoom

2. Tap to focus. Sets the focus, exposure and white balance (known as the AAA to any point you tap on the picture)

3. Choose photos to be the optimal size for upload to Instagram. This means photos with a base width of 1080 in aspect ratio 1:1 or 3:2

4. Camera Extensions. These are high end photo effects that some, mostly expensive devices, offer on their native camera app. The effects include:- Auto, Beauty, Bokeh, HDR and Night modes. I had to write this part without being able to test it, because my only test device doesn't support these features.

5. Selfie-Stick support. Should work with most Bluetooth sticks

6. Down-volume is also shutter button.

I'm coming out of furlough and returning to my normal job soon. Please give me some constructive feedback.

Keep calm & stay safe,

Ian.
