Augustenborg has been a unique residential area ever since it was built in 1948-1952 as a model for the Swedish folk home, and over the past 20 years it has become even more unique through the conversion to Ekostaden, which lifts the entire area both socially and ecologically and economically.

Ekostaden and Augustenborg have been widely described nationally, nationally and internationally and visited by thousands of students, professionals, politicians and others with an interest in ecological and social modernization of an existing residential area.
Augustenborg has become a central part of Malmö City's brand as a pioneer in sustainable construction and sustainable development.
