Description

Valence is the ability of atoms of chemical elements to enter into chemical compounds with atoms of other elements. In other words, it is the ability of an atom to form a certain number of chemical bonds with other atoms. A quantitative measure of valency is the number of bonds that a given atom forms with other atoms or atomic groups.
