Description

Jean-Baptiste-Marie Vianney, (1786 - 1859), commonly known in English as St. John Vianney, was a French parish priest, venerated in the Roman Catholic Church. He is often referred to as the "Curé d'Ars" since he was the parish priest of Ars. He became internationally known for his priestly and pastoral work in Ars, France, due to the radical spiritual transformation of the community. Catholics attribute this to his holy life, mortification, perseverance in hearing confessions, and ardent devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

This sermons were composed when he was a young priest, and are thought to be some of the most impressive the church has ever produced. They cover both moral and doctrine matters in terms that the average layman could understand. Among the many issues he covers are: The Duties of Mothers, Parents and Pregnant Woman, Annual Confessions, How Death Will Reveal Robbers, Being Happy, The Terrible State of a Lukewarm Soul, Evil Company, and many more.

Also included in this work is "The Life of Saint John Vianney" as an appendix.
