Description

Cyril of Alexandria's Commentary on the Gospel of St. John was original written in Greek in the early part of the 5th century, this is 1885 publication translated by Payne Smith, R. (Robert) and now available in an easy to navigate app form with text-to-speech options.

St. Cyril of Alexandria (c. 376 – 444) was the Patriarch of Alexandria from 412 to 444. He was appointed to the position when the city was at the height of its influence and power within the Greek-Roman world. Cyril wrote extensively and was a leading protagonist in the Christological controversies. He was the central figure of the Council of Ephesus in 431, which led to the deposition of Nestorius as Patriarch of Constantinople.

Cyril is considered a Church Father and the Doctors of the Church, and his reputation within the Christian world has resulted in titles such as: Pillar of Faith and Seal of all the Fathers.
