The battle waged next to the castle of Alarcos (in Arabic: al-Arak الأرك), located on a hill at whose feet the Guadiana River runs, near Ciudad Real (Spain), on July 19, 1195, between the Christian troops of Alfonso VIII of Castile and the Almohads of Abū Ya'qūb Yūsuf al-Mansūr (Yusuf II), leading to defeat for the Christian troops, which completely destabilized the Kingdom of Castile and halted any attempt to reconquer until the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa.
