Description

PillBox Info is a small utility that provides a friendly interface to the U.S. National Library of Medicine Pillbox API. The Pillbox database contains detailed information on thousands of medical pills, as registered with the US National Institutes of Health. Using PillBox Info, pill data can be retrieved using several different criteria, such as pill appearance, ingredients, and code numbers.

PillBox Info is designed to help you answer questions like: "What pills contain codeine?", "What is this green, hexagonal pill with the letter 'T' on it?", "What does pill 54698-1092 look like?", "Does my pill contain lactose?".

For some pills, the Pillbox API can return a manufacturer photo of the pill; when such an image is available, PillBox Info will display it. For pills where no image is available, PillBox Info will show a schematic representation based on the registered shape and color of the pill.

The Pillbox API returns only basic information about each Pill: prescription string, ingredients, size, shape, color, imprint, and various code numbers. Using the product code, PillBox Info provides a handy link to the DailyMed database, which include full information about the medication.

The Pillbox API includes the following warning: "Pillbox’s data is created by combining drug information resources from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health. This information has been reformatted to make it easier to work with but has not been verified by FDA or NLM. The information available through this API may not be the labeling on currently distributed products or identical to the labeling that is approved. NLM makes no warranty that the data is error free. See http://pillbox.nlm.nih.gov/API-documentation.html for further information."
