Description

A free application to practice and test your understanding of Hiragana and Katakana.  Ideal for those studying Japanese as a Foreign Language- both in class and self-study. Designed by academic staff of the Japanese Language Program from International University of Japan.
You can listen to the correct pronunciation as well as have your own handwriting and pronunciation assessed.

■The introduction section provides you with answers to commonly asked questions about hiragana and katakana.
-- Mora(s) vs. Syllable(s)
-- unvoiced(See-on) vs. voiced(Daku-on) and consonant p sounds(Handaku-on), double consonants (Soku-on), consonant accompanied by y (Yoo-on), and long vowels (Choo-on ).
-- Accent and Devoicing(Musee-ka)
-- Proper use of paired hiragana:「じ(ji)」vs.「ぢ(ji)」,「ず(zu)」vs.「づ(zu)」and「お(o)」vs.「を(o)」
-- Proper use of Hiragana and Katakana
-- Variants by different font types.

■ The practice section provides you with various types of training and quizzes.
-- Handwriting section: Have your stroke order and shape of the characters assessed by a character recognition engine.
-- Sound section: Choose and tap the character you would like to listen to. You can try dictation.
-- Pronunciation: Have your pronunciation assessed by a voice recognition engine.
-- Quizzes: Test your spelling of words including double consonants and long vowels as well as single syllables.
