Description

Candi Prambanan is a 9th-century Hindu temple complex in Central Java, Indonesia, dedicated to Tiurti, who is denoted as Creator (Brahma), Protector (Vishnu), and Destroyer (Shiva). The temple complex is spotted on the border between Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces, about 17 kilometers northeast of the city of Yogyakarta.

A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Prambanan temple group is the most magnificent Hindu temple in Indonesia and one of the grandest Hindu temples in Southeast Asia. It is notable for its tall and pointed architecture typical of Indian architecture and the 47-meter-high (154 ft) central building within the grand temple complex. Prambanan is a tourist attraction.

Prambanan temple compounds originally consisted of 240 temple structures; Representing the splendor of Hindu art and architecture of ancient Java, Prambanan is also considered a masterpiece of the classical period in Indonesia and welcomes approximately 500,000 visitors annually from all over the world.

According to the Shivagrha inscription, a public water project was undertaken to change the flow of a river near the Shivagrha temple during the construction of the temple. Described as the Opak River, the river now flows from north to south on the west side of the Prambanan temple compound.
