Description

Pepper is a genus of nightshades (Solanaceae). Species of this genus are native to the Americas, where they have been bred for thousands of years. Capsicum is grown worldwide and is used in many cuisines.

The homeland of pepper is the Americas. The first pepper cultivation in history BC. It is reported that it was made in 7500 BC and is among the first plant species grown in America, and the pepper culture spread rapidly from America to Europe and from there to China and India. Hot peppers are sweet when grown in wetlands but are often bitter. It is green when fresh. It will turn red if overripe or sun-dried. Charleston peppers are thicker, meatier, and generally sweeter than cayenne pepper. Tomato pepper, similar to tomato, has a broad structure. Its color is red, not bitter, but there are also hot red peppers identical to it in different regions. There are green and yellow varieties of bell pepper. Bell peppers also turn red when overripe or sun-dried. The type of pepper known as Paprika in Turkey and Europe, on the other hand, is red even when fresh and is usually very hot. This is the pepper that Hungarians use in their famous and similar dishes. All peppers are dried and ground into powder after they turn red. This is called "red pepper" and is sold separately as "very hot," "hot," "slightly hot," and "sweet." "Chili paste" is made from red tomato peppers. Pepper paste is widely used in Anatolia. In some regions, pepper paste is also made from sun-fried sweet peppers.

Ideal growing conditions for peppers include a warm sunny position, ideally loamy soil with a temperature of 21 to 29 °C (70 to 84 °F). The soil should be moist but not waterlogged. Overly moist soils can cause "moistening" of seedlings and reduced germination.

Pepper genus consists of 20-27 species. The five domesticated species are C annuum, C baccatum, C chinense, C frutescens, and C pubescens. Phylogenetic relationships between species were investigated using biogeographic, morphological, chemosystematic, hybridization, and genetic data. Pepper fruits can vary tremendously in color, shape, and size between and within species, leading to confusion over relationships between taxa.
