COPD predictor

Description

This mobile App is a medical calculator indicating the likelihood that a smoker patient without previous diagnosis of COPD will have fixed airflow limitation.

To calculate this likelihood we need to know the following patient parameters: age, Fagerström test, smoking pack-years and the presence of respiratory symptoms.

To give this likelihood the App will calculate a total score based on the risk of the above parameters. A patient will have a greater risk of airflow limitation if that patient is older, have higher grade of nicotine dependence, have smoked more cigarettes since the beginning of the habit and there is respiratory symptoms. According to the score obtained the patient will have a probability associated with the diagnosis.

If a patient has high probability of fixed airflow limitation, spirometry should be performed in order to confirm the diagnosis.
