Description
Clock note is a minimal and general time tracker that aims to minimize user
interactions, particularly useful for tough childcaring activities such as
sleep training. You just tap the start buttons and multiple stopwatches fire.
You can later edit the associated data, such as the name of the
activity, start time, stop time, duration, and the note. No pre-configuration is
necessary, although you can always configure timer presets to reduce
duplicated editing later.
The intended use case is this: you have a set of activities that you want to track, such as sleep training, potty training, or other demanding childcaring activities. And you have already installed a dedicated time tracking app to do that. But maybe, the app is a bit too slow to launch at 3am when you want to go back to sleep as soon as possible. Maybe it requires too much user interactions to enter just a simple time record when your baby has already started crying.
Instead, you quickly launch "clock note" and tap a button. When the tough night (I mean: every night) is over, you can fill up the details directly in the clock note app or copy the data into another dedicated app for data analysis or visualization.
So it's not meant to be a stand alone time tracker app.. it is meant to be
the quickest time data entry app that complements other time tracking apps.
Clock note is already functionally complete for this purpose even though there remains much to be desired as a time tracker. It's functionally complete because:
1. The launch time is quick enough (though it could be 3x times as fast)
2. The data are externally editable and analyzable.
3. The app requires only minimal user interaction.
4. The data is easily copy-and-pasted to other dedicated apps (such as
baby tracking apps)
5. The data and the stopwatch states are all persistent and survive through
app reinstalls.
By default, your data are mirrored in Download/clocknote folder as an unencrypted sqlite3 database file. Please do not enter sensitive personal information into this app (yet) or disable this database mirroring feature.
Many things happened since then and now our baby is a truly happy one year old who would smile and chuckle at everything he encounters.
He regularly sleeps 11 hours or more straight through the night, although
that was not our original goal. He looks happy, which is everything that counts for us. Childcaring needs support, and I hope this little tool helps for new parents.
