Description

As part of the project "Animated Basic Grammar of the German Language" by Prof. dr. Jörg Roche and dr. Katsiaryna El-Bouz is developing an innovative basic grammar of the German language at the Institute for German as a Foreign Language of the LMU Munich, which is based on knowledge of cognitive linguistics and multimedia learning.
The Current Grammar Studio presents German grammar with sports imagery. The sports are animated and explained as grammatical metaphors. These computer animations are particularly suitable for clarifying the rules, especially for learners who have been "fighting" grammar for a long time. The grammar studio is a reference grammar. It also contains notes for use in the classroom and exercises. Through the website www.granima.de and through this app can be booked by language teaching institutions, language teachers and language learners individual animations and packages to numerous grammatical phenomena of the German language.
Three types of animation are used: semantic explanations (as in the case of the meaning of prepositions), conceptual (as in the case of crossover in the case of alternate prepositions), and typological explanations (as in the explanation of the verbal elements in word formation). Often all three variants are used for the explanation.
The conceptual presentation is based on findings of cognitive linguistics. It is the most important reference discipline for cognitive language didactics and can be very well combined with action-oriented didactics. Grammar is presented as a holistic, meaningful and transparent system. The positive and lasting impact of the conceptual approach has been clearly demonstrated in numerous scientific studies of proficiency in various grammatical areas. An additional exercise app for the grammar animations is currently under development.
