The Danakil is the new desert and jungle house in Erfurt. Here extremes, differences and similarities become an experience. The project is named after the Danakil desert in Africa. Once fertile land, it is now one of the driest and most hostile areas on earth.

Under the motto “One way, two extremes”, you wander through both worlds in Danakil and immerse yourself in the realm of extremes. While the competition for the sun's rays rages in the rainforest, the desert offers plenty of space for individualists. Yet despite their apparent differences, one element determines both worlds: water.

While it literally falls from the sky in the rainforest, you won't find it in the desert. So water is the key to both extremes and all animals and plants have adapted to scarcity and abundance with incredible strategies.

On the trail of water, the circular path in Danakil leads you from the dried up river bed into the vastness of the desert and from there to the tops of the evergreen rainforest.
Numerous specialists appear along the way and report on their incredible survival strategies. To track them down you need this dowsing rod 2.0.
