Description

Potsdam Conference 1945 - The Reorganization of the World

The Potsdam Conference is one of the most important historical events of the 20th century. It is regarded worldwide as a symbol for the end point of the Second World War and the outbreak of the Cold War. The "Potsdam Agreement" passed at Cecilienhof Palace laid the foundation stone for a reorganization of the world after 1945.

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Potsdam Conference from June 23 to December 31, 2020, the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg (SPSG) is showing a special exhibition in Cecilienhof Palace. At the authentic location, visitors experience a multimedia journey through time to the fateful days of summer 1945. A factual and ideology-free presentation of the geopolitical decisions contrasts with emotionally moving voices of those affected. Well-known historical figures such as Churchill, Stalin and Truman are confronted with the “nameless” of history - among them victims of atomic bombs and displaced persons. The special exhibition enables a multi-perspective view of a piece of world history. For the first time, the exhibition also includes the famous garden terrace as the location for the press photos of the “Big Three” in the wicker armchairs.

Experience the exhibition with the multimedia guide and let yourself be guided through the exhibition with exciting audio and video content. Additional images, interviews with contemporary witnesses, original documents and augmented reality call attention to the world of 1945.

All audio content is available in the guide as transcripts, in German sign language and as an audio guide in easy language.
