Salad Types

There are several different types of salads.
1. Salads based on raw vegetables, usually with green leaves, for example lettuce, watercress, chicory or others, and tomatoes, radishes, cucumbers, and may bring nuts or other dried fruits seasoned with a sauce not cooked to olive oil (or other oil) and vinegar or lemon juice;

2. Salads made from pasta or mixed with other raw vegetables, sometimes with small pieces of meat (mainly ham) or fish and seasoned with a mayonnaise sauce; The traditional tuna salad belongs to this group.

3. Fruit salads are made from fruit, and include the fruit cocktail that can be made from fresh or pickled fruits.

4. For official confirmation the traditional Portuguese food "Cold Salad" is not considered a mayonnaise salad.

5. In different cultures salads are consumed in different ways, for example:

• In France and US restaurants (but not at home or when eating fast food), the salad is served before the main course as a kind of appetizer;

• In Portugal, lettuce salad (and its variants) is served as an accompaniment to the main course, while the first course is often soup;

• In Mozambique, many poor urban people eat only one salad as their main meal of the day; Salad as a main meal is also becoming common in industrialized countries, but as a way of varying the diet, there are even restaurants serving exclusively salads.
