Photometrix on Philippine Seafarer’s Identity Card (SID)
The introduction of modern security features into the Filipino Seafarer’s ID aims to ensure secure proof of the seafarer’s eligibility for visa waiver, easy facilitation in the authentication process of the seafarer’s identity at ports and border crossings, for shore leave and ship transfer without visa requirement. This is in compliance with the ILO Convention 185 or otherwise known as the Seafarers’ Identity Document (SID) Convention issued by the International Labor Organization (ILO), by virtue of which, the Philippines, thru MARINA will be issuing a world-class SID.
In response, MARINA will implement its very first secure and state-of-the-art photo 2D barcode called Photometrix™.
Photometrix™ is an innovative and secure 2D barcode with a photo printed in the middle. This feature allows instant naked eye validation of the picture vis-à-vis the cardholder. It also enables both online and offline authentication via any brand of mobile smart phones.
This security feature integrates the photograph’s digital signature into the encrypted 2D barcode. By downloading the Marina Photometrix™ app, all data encrypted inside the code can be extracted after the successful matching of the printed photograph with its digital signature. A facial check may also be used to verify if the cardholder presenting the SID with the Photometrix™ is the same person on the card.
