Description

Perhaps you know that dementia diseases can be different dependent upon the area of brain damage. Memory, perception of time and orientation usually deteriorate which make it difficult for the person in question to plan and carry our everyday tasks. It isn’t unusual either with a change in behaviour e.g. to become aggressive or anxious. This can be difficult to cope with for both you and those nearby. Today there is no legal support for force or restraint in the care or wellbeing of a person with dementia. Instead it is a matter of trying to prevent and avoid difficult situations with the help of knowledge and treatment. In order to be able to understand the information in this app it is of an advantage to have some understanding of what dementia means and what the consequences can be.

The Swedish Dementia Centre is a national competence centre that works with collecting and spreading information about dementia. Amongst other things we have published *About dementia for relatives, a book in which you can read about support for relatives and others, treatment, dementia diseases etc. Similar questions are also discussed in the free of charge web based course, *Dementia ABC plus relatives.
This app is part of an information teaching package/course; Zerovision - for dementia care without restraint. A brochure for family and friends is also a part of the education package. There is also a manual, an app and web based course specifically for nursing staff.
