Why this name? Simply to refer to the Mystères de Paris (1842-43) by Eugène Sue (cf., p.69: «M. Pipelet, le portier, momentanément absent, était représenté par madame Pipelet» and p.265: «C'est vrai ... s'écria aigrement la Pipelet»).

In French pipelet or pipelette, designate an excessively talkative, curious person, gossiping.
