Description

PTBuddy is a physical therapy assistance app designed to guide you through setting up and performing various arm or leg exercises according to your physical therapy needs. PTBuddy accomplishes this using the motion sensors in your phone or a compatible Wear OS smartwatch to help you set up custom exercises, track your exercises as you perform them, and offer guidance to help you exercise properly and efficiently.

PTBuddy tracks your progress as you exercise every day and summarizes how you did for all the physical therapy exercises you performed recently. If you are seeing a physical therapist, you can share these results with them using the app, allowing them to better personalize your exercise regimen.

PTBuddy is intended to be used in combination with a Wear OS device, but it can also be used standalone with just your phone.

The App Factory partly supported development of this application to Support Health and Function of People with Disabilities funded by a grant from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to the Shepherd Center (Grant #90DPHF0004).

This work was also supported by the National Science Foundation under Award #1622619 and Award #1622652.

The research behind the app, and the app development itself, was conducted by researchers at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, managed by Dr. Samir Rawashdeh, and the University of Kentucky, managed by Dr. Tim Uhl.
