RefPaid — what refs get paid!
• How much does a league or tournament really pay? • Does it pay for forfeits? • Are the coaches an issue?
These are just a few things that referees like to know before they accept or go after an assignment. Unfortunately that information is not always available. Sometime even the assignor is not very transparent about it.
Enter RefPaid!
The RefPaid app collects information about the pay and working conditions of basketball leagues and tournaments nationwide from the referees that work them.
From the recreational level through Division 1, once enough information gets collected, we will release it on our upcoming website for easy access by the entire referee community. No matter where an official might live or where they may travel, data about a league’s pay, working conditions, and assignor will be at your fingerprints.
This app asks only four basic questions:
• The name of the league/event. • Where is it located? (Venue, City, State) • Who is the assignor? (Agency or Person) • How much does it pay per game?
Your submissions are completely anonymous. Each of the four fields are absolutely voluntary. Thereafter you have a free form area where you can share as much or as little additional info about the games as you may like. Information such as:
• Does it pay by cash or check? • Stop-clock or running-clock format? • Does the onsite staff have your back or let the coaches run the show? • Do you get paid for forfeits or do you get stiffed?
When this information turns public, RefPaid will be a check on assignors, holding them accountable as to the working conditions of every account that they service. Assignors will also be rated by the game fees they are able to negotiate so that referees can celebrate the ones that do the best job while ousting the middlemen that do poorly on our behalf.
