Description
Lake Edward is one of the largest lakes in Africa with an area of 2150Km2 and shares its bed between two neighboring countries that are the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) which includes 71% of the lake and Uganda. The lake is teeming with multiple species of fish that punctuate activities surrounding communities that closely depend on them. Unfortunately, this fishery resource seems to be diminishing because of a lack of effective fishing management. The Congolese NGO FECOPEILE, has decided to take the bull by the horns by putting in place tools that will help decision-making for sustainable management of the lake resource. So FECOPEILE opts for new technologies as a solution. The organization wants to set up two mobile apps. The first dedicated to its field technicians who will allow them to document and quantify the catches of fish brought to the falls daily by sinners. The technicians will go daily to the points of falls to identify, quantify and record in the application the different species of fish landed.
