Description
This publication embodies the idea of a "living tradition" and attempts to unite divided Ukrainian Orthodox Christians in prayer.
Project goal:
1) to unite Ukrainian Orthodox Christians, divided into several ecclesiastical jurisdictions, in a common prayer for the unity of the Church in Ukraine;
2) to revive the prayer life of the faithful, expanding their worldview through acquaintance with the richness of the Eastern Orthodox prayer tradition, in particular, with the practice of prayer of the Greek Church.
The challenges facing the Ukrainian Orthodox Churches today require us, the people of the Church, to act swiftly. These challenges are a socio-political crisis in the context of external aggression by the state, which calls itself Orthodox, and at the same time tries to inflame conflicts on interfaith grounds; strengthening of antagonistic moods among Ukrainian believers in relation to each other; and at the same time a long process of secularization, a "magical" attitude to religion, the widespread spread of superstition and ritualism in society. The division of Ukrainian Orthodoxy continues, although people's demand for the unity of the Church is growing. However, believers mostly do not know what to do with this desire for unity.
The sincere and fervent prayer of Christians can help in this. It may not lead to a quick result, but it will lay an important foundation for good prospects. Christians who pray for unity are, in fact, united because of this, despite church barriers.
In this edition you will not find the usual morning and evening prayers that we are usually invited to read in all other prayer books. Prayer life should not be limited to reading the same set of prayers every day, year after year. Instead, here you can find the classics forgotten by the faithful - morning and evening, as well as noon, night prayers, etc., selected from the classic prayer book of the Church - the Hourglass. There are also prayers of St. Siluan of Athos, Archimandrite Sophrony Sakharov, Father Alexander Men - our contemporaries.
