Description

Como Me Oyes (meaning: How You Hear Me) is an application for family and friends of people with hearing disabilities or deafness of any degree.

The app allows you to hear your own voice, with the ears of the deaf person.

If you have the audiometry of your friend, relative or work colleague, the app makes an audio with your voice but as your relative or friend with hearing loss is hearing you.

It makes it easier for you to empathize with that person, after hearing your own voice in her ears. No longer guessing, but living it for yourself, in first person experience. It can change your perspective, to put yourself in her shoes for merely 10 seconds.

It lets you know exactly what her specific level of deafness means.
You will stop guessing (we are usually quite wrong), and you will know how she hears you.

Is one of your children deaf? Check how she hears you, to better understand her and know what to do to improve your communication with her.
Is your husband starting to lose hearing in one or both ears?
Does your kid respond well to a low frequency voice, but hardly reacts to high frequencies?
Did your friend work for too long in a noisy environment (airport, construction, ...) and now pays the price of deafness?
Does your grandfather "play deaf" or can't he really hear you?
Try it for yourself. Get his or her audiometry, and live it, experience it in your own ears. By living it for just a few seconds, your understanding of each other and your communication can improve a lot.

It is very simple to use:
You can select the 3 main levels of deafness (mild, moderate or deep). And you can also personalize the audiogram with the audiometry data of the deaf relative you want to experience.
You record your voice (10 seconds), and in a few seconds the app creates several videos with your voice:
* as heard by a non-deaf person (normal audio)
* as heard by the deaf person you have selected (or customized),
* right ear only (useful in imbalanced hearing loss cases),
* left ear only (useful in imbalanced hearing loss cases).

The app has a customizable audiogram. You can fine-tune each frequency range with the exact decibels of hearing loss stated in the audiology test, for each particular ear. You have more than a dozen frequency points in the audiogram to make the simulation as precise as you want.

It allows to raise awareness in society about how deafness affects our personal relationships, and motivates us to take care of communication in all its aspects: to vocalize better, to allow the deaf person to lean on lip reading, to speak slowly, to support what we say with non-verbal language, eliminating ambient noise, speaking one by one when we are in a group, the importance of sign language, etc.
