Vivi Oropa

Description

According to tradition, the origin of the Oropa Sanctuary is to be placed in the fourth century by St. Eusebius, the first Bishop of Vercelli. The oldest documents date back to 1200, they speak of the chapel where the Black Madonna is venerated; around it was built the present basilica (early 1600) and, increasingly, around the imposing building complex to the Upper Church, consecrated in 1960. Prestigious architects such as Filippo Juvarra, Guarino Guarini, Filippo Beltrame, Ignatius A. Galletti, Pierpaolo Bonora helped design and carry out all of the Sanctuary buildings.
