Description

Pawns 12, also called "Wouré", is a board game from West Africa. It is mainly played in Senegal. This simple game from the same family as the Yoté game is a variation of the Checkers game, the rules are very similar. This is a very popular and much played game, partly because of its simple rules.

Traditionally in Senegal, Pawn 12 is often played with simple pebbles or sticks constituting the pawns, holes are dug on the ground or lines drawn on a support to form the board. The game is played on a square board divided into 25 equal squares of the same color. At the start of a game both players each have 12 different colored pawns. Usually players choose the colors black and white. The object of the game is to capture all the opposing pawns.
