The basic calculation to find out whether or not alcohol is advantageous over gasoline is simple. Just divide the price of a liter of alcohol by that of gasoline. If the result is less than 0.7, use alcohol. If it is greater than 0.7, then gasoline is better.

For example, if a liter of alcohol costs R$5.30 and a liter of gasoline costs R$7.00, then the result will be 0.757. That is, alcohol or gasoline? Gasoline is more advantageous. Thus, during this period, it was worth more to fill up with gasoline.
