Scripture - "book", which is a diminutive of βίβλος [bíblos] - "book", a noun derived from the word βυβλος [byblos] meaning "papyrus", from the name of the Phoenician city of Byblos, known for the production of papyrus) is the name for the Hebrew Bible (Hebrew: תַּנַ"ךְ - Tanah) and the Christian Bible, which consists of the Old Testament and the New Testament.
The idea of the Christian Bible as the New Testament originated from early Christian texts that saw Christ as a mediator in a new covenant with God. The Christian Bible, ie the New Testament, contains 27 scriptures. These writings can be divided into 4 types of religious texts: four gospels, one early church history, twenty-one epistles, one apocalypse.
The Bible, or the Holy Scriptures, for Christians means a collection of scriptures that are divided into the books of the Old Testament and the New Testament.
The Orthodox Church has included 39 books in the Old Testament. According to the canon of the Roman Catholic Church, the Old Testament contains 46 books, because it includes, in addition to 39 protocanonical, and seven nine-canonical books (Protestants call them apocryphal).
Bible translations by South Slavs
The so-called The "Elective Gospel" and the Apostle were translated from Greek into Church Slavonic by the brothers Cyril and Methodius before leaving for Moravia to preach Christianity, and other parts of the New Testament and the Old Testament will be translated by them and their disciples.
