Alfiyyah Ibn Malik is a matan book written in the form of nadzom or poetry. The number of stanzas in the book is approximately 1,000 (one thousand) stanzas. Therefore, the book is called Alfiyah, which means a thousand.

The habit of collecting theories of a scientific discipline in the form of poetry is a habit of the scholars from ancient times to the present. The goal is to make it easier to memorize. Because, how to read poetry is slightly different from how to read normally. The technique of reading poetry is usually accompanied by some kind of rhythm/tone, so it is more attached to memorization than regular reading.

Matan Alfiyah Ibnu Malik is a Nahwu scholar who was written by a Nahwu scholar. He has written many works, but the fame of Alfiyah's book overshadows all of his other works. So it's as if he only has this Alfiyah book.
