Description

The IOSI guidelines were prepared through a joint effort between the services of medical oncology, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, hematology, palliative care and research that are gathered since 1999 under the "IOSI" roof.
The guidelines for each of the major cancer diseases, therapeutic attitudes to date of our institution, listed in priority order preceded by a list of fundamental investigations for staging. Generally you will find for every disease an overview of the management strategy and the respective explanatory notes.
The guidelines also contain the drug therapy schemes divided into three groups: the anticancer agents in monotherapy, the polychemotherapy and therapy to be administered in conjunction with radiotherapy.
Finally you will find instructions for the urgent oncological management, infection, the most common symptoms and some cards on infertility prevention, elderly patient assessment and offers oncology rehabilitation as well as indications of PET / CT.
Proposals for specific therapy have also been included for the older patient, vulnerable or frail for the following cancers: lung, colon, rectum, breast, ovary and prostate. The "fit" elderly are instead treated as an adult regardless of age.
It should be noted that it was difficult to reconcile the results of studies showing significant benefits of new therapeutic procedures with the fact that many drugs are expensive, and in part still not recognized by the health insurance automatically. In each of these cases we have added the words "ask CM".
