Description

The RightsApp application is the main outcome of a research project funded by the European Union Justice Program (2014-2020). This app is aimed at providing empowerment of rights and crime victim support for EU citizens across the EU territory. It includes three different scenarios in which the user that has been victim of a crime within the European Union can found himself/herself. The first scenario is the need to make an emergency call to 112. With just a push of a button the user can make an emergency call to 112. The second scenario is the need to be provided with information regarding rights of European Union citizens’ who have been victims of a crime. In order to obtain particularized information, the user has to fill in a small questionnaire. In the latter scenario the app provides the citizen who has been the victim of a crime with information regarding entities, centres, consulates and embassies.

Currently, the RightsApp app is on its piloting stage and the legal framework, entities, centres, consulates and embassies included in the database belong to Spain. Anyway, the app is provided in four different languages: English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. In addition and due to the collaboration with different public administrations the app also provides protocols of actuation that are specific to certain cities: in Barcelona there is a concrete set of actions that a victim of a sexual attack should follow in order to obtain maximum support from well trained hospitals and institutions, which are experts in this kind of crimes.
