Description

The National Organization of the Blind of Brazil, is the only institution legally constituted civilian representative directly of 86 entities and blind society and 7 million Brazilians with visual impairment (IBGE 2010).

Represented in the five geographical regions of the country, the ONCB has as one of its main institutional goals, the defense of the rights of the visually impaired - blind or have low vision. Therefore, it operates at national and international level and proposes and participates in discussions of relevant topics for the segment in the most different areas.

To facilitate the achievement of its objectives, the ONCB sits on the National Council for the Rights of Persons With Disabilities (CONADE); National Health Council (CNS); National Youth Council (CONJUVE); Directing Council of the National Book and Reading Plan (PNLL) and the Brazilian Committee of Braille (CBB), in addition to integrating, at the national level, the Representative Committee of the People Entities with Disabilities (CRPD), and at the international level, the Union Latin American Blind (Ulaç) and the World Blind Union (UMC).
