The work of translation of CEI Bible begins on October 7, 1965, when the secretariat of the Italian Episcopal Conference appointed a commission of bishops to create a new Italian translation of the Bible suitable for liturgical use according to the indications of Vatican Council II.

Since 1974, this modern, accurate and beautifully written edition is adopted in the Breviary of the Italian Catholic liturgy.

The CEI Bible is divided into two major sections known as the Old and the New Testament.

All the books have been divided into chapters and into verses.

The CEI contains 73 books:
