Background:
When the kids were young I'd sometimes eat pretzels and watch TV while they'd sleep. I got the bright idea to bite of bits of the pretzels and leave little messages for them to read in the morning. Since they were learning to read it was educational. Or, maybe I was just bored.
The other night I was watching TV and eating pretzels when I realized the segments could be removed or not to create 8 combinations. Since there is 3 segments it can represent 3 binary bits. Therefore, two pretzels can easily represent 64 combinations. An early ASCII standard circa 1967 represented all the letters of the english alphabet (in caps) and a bunch or punctuation with 6 bits. They were less impressed than when they were little.
We started talking about it and I noted you could use a simple phone app to come up with "pretzel codes." So that is what the "Pretzel Coder" is. If you every fine yourself in a spy thriller and you need to convey a message to your fellow spies while at a bar where they hand out free pretzels, you are set.
