Description

The Gray-backed Eurasian Parrot is a species of bird in the Thraupidae family. Also known as forest and coconut head (São Paulo), patativa (Interior of Bahia) and coleiro-mineiro due to the fact that it is more common in the region of Minas Gerais, where it is also known as blackbird. to differentiate it from the black or baiano (Sporophila nigricollis), a much more common species.

It has a white breast and a dark gray head and neck, which gives it the shape of a carapuce. It can be confused with the Bahian, which is distinguished by having a gray-green color on the back and on the hood and yellow on the chest, more common in Central, North and Northeast Brazil. Its song undergoes regional variations and is almost identical to that of the Bahian.
