In the elder days of yore, when the mighty Google Pixel held dominion over the realm, the Ring and Notification volumes were melded into a single entity, begetting an unhallowed union that wrought discord and pandemonium amidst the populace. Distressed and forlorn, the common folk cried out for salvation from this harsh cacophony, beseeching a deliverance from the tyranny of these potent volumes bound by fate's cruel hand. And so it was decreed: the Ring and Notification volumes were to be cleaved in twain, their destines rent asunder to forestall further dissonance upon the fair lands.
